Cafe Concert with Jason Sones

Penarth Pier Pavilion is delighted to welcome Jason Sones for a piano recital showcasing favourite classics from Liszt, Rzewski and Beethoven.

Jason is a final year music student at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and this concert is part of the College’s residency at Penarth Pier Pavilion.

The afternoon’s concert includes Sonata in B Minor by Franz Liszt, seen as one of the biggest works to exist in piano repertoire, due to its virtuosity and overarching structure, which consists of 4 movements that are to be played in one. This piece is seen to be one of Liszt’s greatest works.

Jason will also be performing a piece from the repertoire of Frederic Rzewski, considered to be one of the most influential American composers of the 20th Century.

The concert includes one of Beethoven’s last compositions for piano, his 6 Bagatelles Op. 126 were written in 1824, three years before his death, and dedicated to his brother Nikolaus Johann van Beethoven. Writing to his publishers the following year, he proclaimed that these pieces were “probably the best I’ve ever written”.

We hope you can join us for what promises to be a wonderful afternoon of music from the talented young pianist Jason Sones.

Tea or coffee will be available on arrival.
