We’re thrilled to welcome Rhian to Griffin Books for a very special Festival Storytime and live draw-along to celebrate the release of her new picture book, Sweetpea Magee: Mermaid Expert. Join us for a fun-filled adventure to discover absolutely EVERYTHING there is to know about mermaids.

Sweetpea Magee – Mermaid Expert:
Mermaids are Sweetpea’s specialist subject, and she wants to help you become an expert too. From super-strong river mermaids to synchronised-swimming mermen, follow along as she introduces you to her flippered friends and their unique personalities. She’ll even open up her top-secret notebook of mermaid fact files for you. But there’s one mermaid Sweetpea has never seen – and with you by her side, she’s ready to start searching.

Hold tight as she faces an ogre, a dragon, a goblin and a witch, all in the hunt for the rarest mermaid of them all. And in a final twist, you might just discover that the magic of these creatures is closer to home than you think . . .

Rhian Wright lives with her husband, two children and a very miserable cat called Margaret in Cardiff. Inspired by the outside world, she creates fun, expressive images of diverse characters, focusing on connection and emotion. As a reluctant reader, illustrations were how Rhian accessed stories. She hopes her books help children develop a lifelong love of stories and make sense of things they may not understand, but most importantly have fun!
