Penarth Literary Festival – Forest Girl with Lucy Owen and Rebecca Harry
Join author and broadcaster Lucy Owen and illustrator Rebecca Harry for a magical event celebrating the release of their wonderful new children’s book, Forest Girl. A heart-warming tale of nature, friendship, self-discovery and conservation, Forest Girl is the sequel to Lucy and Rebecca’s popular first novel Flower Girl.
This interactive session will include an introduction to Forest Girl, readings from Lucy and a live painting by Rebecca herself! You’ll also learn about the protected Celtic rainforests of Wales and have the opportunity to put your questions to our author/illustrator duo, before creating your own Forest Girl-inspired ivy bracelet and crowns to take home.
Forest Girl:
Cherry, a girl made by magic from the petals of a blossom tree, is back and ready for her next adventure. Walking in the woods one day, Cherry encounters a mysterious young forest girl who lives among the local wildlife. She seems strangely familiar to Cherry, but just as their friendship begins to bloom, there is devastating news. The woods are under threat and there’s not much time left to save them. Cherry and her friends must find a way to protect the forest girl’s home and the wildlife they love, or risk losing them forever.
Lucy Owen is one of the most experienced broadcasters in Wales. She presents BBC One Wales’ flagship news programme Wales Today, and also presents on BBC Radio Wales. She has written several books for children, including How Do I Know You Love Me?, The Sea House, and Boo-a-Bog in the Park.
Rebecca Harry is an acclaimed illustrator living and working in Cardiff. She studied Graphic Design at Exeter University but her dream was always to create children’s books. She has illustrated over 50 children’s books including picture books, baby books and middle grade novels. Her pieces are created using acrylic paints, pencil, charcoal and pastels.
This event is perfect for book worms and nature lovers aged 7+.
