Spring Concert in Roath

With 2025 well under way, and warmth of Spring right around the corner, we are delighted to announce the return of Ceridwen to the concert platform!

This latest phase in 2025 sees the group return in a new guise, with founding members Becca and Ros exploring some exciting musical collaborations with a whole range of their most talented friends and colleagues including welcoming two new members to the group in Kitty Cheung (Violin) and Laura Sinnerton (Viola).

Reflecting this new exciting chapter, the group have relaunched under the masthead of the Ceridwen Ensemble, plans are well under way for a series of concerts in Spring and Summer 2025. We are excited to announce that the first of these will be our Spring Concert taking place on Sunday 6th April 2025 at Urban Crofters in Roath, Cardiff. This is our first time at this lovely venue, which serves as a church and active place of worship, a community space and performance venue in the heart of Roath in Cardiff, as well as home to the Ground Up Coffee House.

We are delighted to be presenting Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ – a transcendent spiritual setting of words and music, inspired by the Easter Mass and Christ’s crucifixion. This concert will see Ceridwen present this work in an arrangement for string quartet and narrator, and we are extremely pleased to be joined by distinguished actor Kevin Trainor.

The work consists of seven musical reflections on the words and teachings of Christ on the Cross, intertwined with dramatic readings, and bookended by a slow opening introduction and dramatic closing ‘earthquake’. The concert will last around 75 minutes, without an interval.
