A Ninja Tune legacy returns: The Herbaliser Band

Back in 1995, The Herbaliser burst onto the UK music scene with their debut LP Remedies, a cinematic and sample-rich blend of hip hop, funk, and jazz that helped define the early sound of pioneering label Ninja Tune. The brainchild of DJ Ollie Teeba and bassist Jake Wherry, the duo’s obsessive digging for vintage breaks and rare movie soundtracks became the cornerstone of a sound that pushed genre boundaries and redefined live hip hop.

Following up with the acclaimed Blow Your Headphones in 1997, The Herbaliser expanded into a powerhouse 8-piece live band, touring the world and becoming a standout fixture across electronic, jazz, and dub festivals. Their studio output continued to evolve, blending live instrumentation with sample wizardry through classic albums like Very MercenarySomething Wicked This Way Comes and Take London.

In 2021, The Herbaliser project was officially declared over… but 2024 brought a new chapter.

Now reformed and revitalised, The Herbaliser Band returns to the stage, featuring original members Ralph Lamb (trumpet/flugelhorn), Andrew Ross (sax/flute), Micah Moody (drums), Patrick Dawes (percussion), joined by James Morton (alto sax), Oliver Parfitt (keys), Conor Cotterill (bass), and the inimitable DJ Ollie Teeba holding it down on the decks.

Expect a deep dive into their iconic Ninja Tune era (1995–2005), a full-force performance of Herbaliser classics, including tracks from RemediesBlow Your HeadphonesVery MercenarySomething Wicked, and Take London.
