Big Ideas, Infinite Possibilities
The innovative Penarth school with a global approach
With the world’s first global network of academically elite IBDP schools, and cutting-edge technology supporting students to excel, Westbourne in 2023 is sector leading.
We take a look at the reasons Westbourne is more innovative than ever.
Unrivalled global connections
Originating in Penarth, Westbourne now boasts a rapidly growing global network of schools, facilitating unmatched learning and personal development opportunities for students. Ranking in the top 1% globally, Westbourne pupils take part in global webinars, lessons and international exchange trips, exchanging ideas with like-minded peers from all over the world.
And the network continues to grow, with Westbourne College Singapore opening in April. In January, Westbourne College Sydney’s first graduating cohort shot straight to 1st in Australia for the highest proportion of 44+ IBDP Point grades.
A future-ready approach
Part of the school’s award-winning proposition is an exclusive partnership with world-leading business school, INSEAD.
Senior pupils participate in the prestigious Summer@INSEAD programme, accessing a leading academic curriculum, talks and networking opportunities with business leaders from a range of industries. Prep students also have the opportunity to visit the INSEAD HQ in France- an unprecedented opportunity for learners of this age to develop their creativity and critical thinking.
Cutting-edge STEM study
In addition to a global outlook, Westbourne’s commitment to excellence in STEM study is at the heart of its on-going success. In 2021, the school was added to the high-profile EdTech50 list for shaping the future of UK education through technological innovation, and in 2022 was shortlisted for ‘Best Use of Technology’ in the TES Schools Awards, as well as for the Independent School of the Year Innovation Award.
The Innovation Hub is a new space where pupils of all ages can be truly innovative, with lessons in coding, computer programming, engineering and 3D printing. It is also home to the school’s electric racing car, currently undergoing work by students to prepare it for the Greenpower racing series. Innovation sessions inspire pupils to think creativity about their own role in changing the world, as part of Westbourne’s drive to nurture our future leaders.
Outstanding outcomes
Westbourne has a longstanding reputation for outstanding student outcomes at both GCSE and in the globally-renowned IB Diploma at Sixth Form. In the UK, 90% of graduates secure Russell Group university places or international equivalents, including Oxbridge and Ivy League, particularly in the fields of STEM, Economics, Business and Law.
Attracting the best young minds from a broad local and international community, small class sizes ensure that every child has the chance to shine, offering an unmatched level of personalised support.
