Choruses from Mendelssohn: St. Paul, An Oratory
Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society is pleased to invite you to join us at The Cardiff Oratory for a special performance of the choruses from Mendelssohn’s masterpiece St. Paul.
Due to its scope, this work is not performed as frequently as Mendelssohn’s other well-known choral work Elijah, but is similar in its story-telling, expression of danger and excitement, and includes many wonderful and memorable movements. The drama of the Oratorio is effectively balanced with quietly beautiful melodies and chorales. This performance will feature the choruses from the Oratorio, giving the audience a tour de force of Mendelssohn’s work.
The performance is given in English and conducted by the Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society’s director of music, Mr. Alex Thacker. The ensemble will be accompanied by Mr. Shean Bowers, director of sacred music and organist at the Cardiff Oratory, on the Oratory’s Deane Organ.
Please join us for this taste of Sacred Music just a 15-minute walk from Cardiff Queen Street station in Swinton Street (CF24 2NT) on Thursday, 10th November at 7:30 p.m..
Chamber orchestra score Mendelssohn arr. Linckelmann.
