Evening Class: A History of Art in the British Isles c.500 – 2023

Join art historian Morgan Haigh on a new five-week course which will take in the wonders marvels, curiosities, and masterpiece of British art and architecture.

From the mysterious cultures of celts and saxons, through the grandeur of the gothic cathedrals and the splendour of the Tudor court, to the political and industrial revolutions of the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries. Finishing in the modern world, as we chart how British identity was made and remade by our artists and writers.

Hear the stories of great names like Turner, Constable, and Gainsborough, foreign artists who made Britain their home like van Dyck, Artemisia, and Holbein, as well as lesser known figures who changed the way we see our own islands such as Wilson, Hollar, and Palmer.

This course is suitable for all; those who know a lot, a little, or are simply those keen to expand their understanding of our island’s history and its rich cultural heritage.
