Stephen Payne: “The Wax Argument”

Join us for a lively evening of poetry and music in the company of Penarth residents Stephen Payne and Phil Nedin.

Stephen Payne is a poet and Professor Emeritus at the University of Bath. His first full-length collection, Pattern Beyond Chance, was shortlisted for the prestigious Wales Book of the Year Award in 2016. He will be reading from his second collection, The Windmill Proof, which was published in 2021 and a pamphlet The Wax Argument & Other Thought Experiments which was released earlier this year. Stephen was a regular performer at the Penarth Acoustic Club and is the host of Griffin Books’ lively Poetry Showcase event.

Phil Nedin was instrumental in setting up the Penarth Acoustic Club, which ran for six years until the Covid Lockdown in 2020. He enjoys the singing songs that have interesting lyrical content (mainly older tunes by UK and UK songwriters) and also plays in local bands banging drums, which is about as far removed from singing folk tunes as it gets but as he says, “it’s all music”.
