Lower Monkton Glamping- Escape Modern Connectivity and Breathe in Nature
Lower Monkton Glamping was born of a complete renovation project. What might have taken some people a year to create, took Hannah and her husband Patrick, only 3 months. Unbelievable? Not with this couple’s driving force.
They created separate decks for the two beautiful bell tents on-site, as well as private individual bathrooms (with flushing loos) so each tent has its own facilities. “When we first looked around the house and land I had a physical reaction,” says Hannah, “it made me feel very emotional.”
The farmhouse had been in the same family for over a 100 years and the history and meaning of the place wasn’t lost on Hannah and her young family, and continuous to be an important link to tradition and a sense of place today.
“We’re very proud of our own family’s Welsh history,” she says. “My Grandma remembers Cowbridge when the farmers used to take the animals there for market, before the cafés and boutiques arrived. Our ethos at Lower Monkton was to create a place that offers luxury within nature- without disrupting the amazing wildlife that already had a home before we came. We have a pair of buzzards, tawny owls, and butterflies in abundance.
“It was also part of the conscious decision to only have two tents in our field. Not only does this maintain the exclusive and luxurious feel for our guests, it minimises the impact the site has on the nature that surrounds it.”
“Since we moved to Lower Monkton we have planted over 50 trees and sowed wildflower seeds in our fallow fields, and our most recent addition is our first hive of bees. The site is also vehicle, electric and wifi-free.”
