We are delighted to welcome back to Penarth Pier Pavilion this autumn, acclaimed art history lecturer, Stella Grace Lyons for this fascinating glimpse into the secret language of jewellery.
After it sold out debut at Goldsmith’s Hall, as part of the 40th anniversary of the Goldsmiths Fair, Stella Grace Lyons is looking forward to offering Penarth Pier Pavilion guests the chance to learn all about ‘Everybody Must Get Stones; the Secret Language of Jewellery in Art History’.
As Stella says, “we know that rubies symbolise love and sacrifice, emeralds suggest truth and fidelity and diamonds are a ‘girl’s best friend’ but why would someone wear a dead weasel with a jewel-encrusted mask?”
This talk explores the significance of jewellery as seen in some of the most famous portraits of art history, with a special focus on works from the 15th to 17th century.
“…. have only had the highest praise for your talk” – Harriet Scott, Head of Events, Goldsmiths.
“Such a fascinating talk on the secret language of jewellery in art history” – The Piece, London
Following the talk, please stay for tea and delicious homemade cake, served in our beautiful Gallery.
