Jane Austen with a Twist as The Paget Rooms
Concept Players bring award-winning Sense and Sensibility to Penarth
This autumn, Concept Players invite audiences to step into the world of Jane Austen as they stage Kate Hamill’s award-winning adaptation of Sense of Sensibility at The Paget Rooms, Penarth, from Thursday 25th – Saturday 27th September 2025.
Hamill’s celebrated version reimagines Austen’s much-loved novel with irresistible energy and theatrical flair. The plot follows sister Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, left in reduced circumstances after their father’s death, as they search for security, happiness, and love in a society governed by wealth and gossip. Along the way, they encounter heartbreak, scandal, and plenty of laughter before discovering that both sense and sensibility have their place in matters of the heart.
Praised in New York as one of the “Top 10 Plays of 2014”, this fast-moving, inventive script blends humour and poignancy in equal measure.
Concept Players are well known across South Wales for productions that sparkle with imagination and polish. Their past triumphs include Sunset Boulevard, Anything Goes and Saucy Jacks, each acclaimed for combining professional standards with theatrical spirit. With Sense and Sensibility, they promise another unforgettable night of theatre.
Director Cathryn Rose says: “Kate Hamill’s script is fresh, funny and full of life. It captures Austen’s wit while adding a theatrical playfulness that keeps audiences on their toes. We’re so excited to share it with Penarth.”
