We’re all used to hearing “reduce, reuse, recycle” – but what if we imagine a world where resources aren’t finite, but keep coming back in new forms. That’s the idea behind a circular economy, a system designed to regenerate, not exhaust.

At View Publishing, print is at our heart, so we want our magazine to be part of that circle, not part of a rubbish problem. Our print partners, Stephens & George Print Group, work entirely with paper sourced from sustainably managed European forests. Between 2005 and 2020, those forests actually grew by an area the size of Croatia – proof that good forestry can go hand-in-hand with print and community magazines.

Paper is also one of the planet’s real recycling success stories. Across Europe, the amount of paper collected for recycling has doubled since 2010, reaching a 75.5% recycling rate today. Every single page of this magazine that is read and recycled helps to cut carbon, save energy, and support the European forests that keep our air clean.

But paper is not the only story; the devices we carry have an impact too. And while the digital world might feel invisible, it comes with a heavy footprint. The industry uses around 4-6% of global electricity and contributes more than 2% of greenhouse gas emissions. And e-waste is booming. In 2022, 62 million tonnes of it were generated worldwide, yet just ~22.3% was recycled.

Here in Wales, we’re already leading the way, recycling over 66% of our waste – with the Vale of Glamorgan close to 70% and setting the bar even higher.

So what does that mean for a magazine like ours? It means every issue we print has the chance to be part of the solution. So when you’re finished reading, pop this magazine in your recycling bin and know you’re helping to close the loop, and turn today’s pages into new possibilities.
