Ever dreamt of standing beneath the Moon, seeing every crater and contour in stunning detail? Now you can and you won’t need a rocket or a spacesuit!

A giant illuminated sculpture of the moon has come to Cardiff this spring, bringing a bit of celestial drama to the city. Created by artist Luke Jerram, the installation – known as Museum of the Moon – features detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface and measures an impressive seven metres in diameter. It will hang inside National Museum Cardiff from 10 March – 12 April 2026, giving visitors the chance to walk beneath it and experience the artwork’s shifting light and atmosphere up close.

The installation has toured internationally, drawing huge crowds wherever it goes, and its arrival in Cardiff is expected to be a standout cultural moment for the city.

To celebrate, the museum will be hosting a series of lunar-inspired events to make your visit even more stellar, even including a silent disco in the moonlight.

It’s the kind of event that invites people of all ages to pause, look up and reconnect with a sense of wonder. And, best of all, it is completely free to visit.
