Arcot Street’s Pocket Park is a Blooming Success
Over the years, Arcot Street Triangle has been transformed, after the Vale of Glamorgan Council approached the Penarth Gardening Club to ask them to take over the maintenance and development of the Triangle. This passionate group of local volunteers, has now been affiliated into The Friends of Arcot Triangle and is supported by both the Vale of Glamorgan Council and Penarth Town Council. The lovely, not-so-hidden gem is located on Arcot Street and is continuously used by members of the community as a place of tranquility and charm.
The park has become a welcoming space for residents and passers-by, serving as a natural stopping point between the town centre and the marina. It is often decorated for local children at Halloween, hosts carol singing at Christmas, and is increasingly used for community events.
Not only that, the hard work of The Friends of Arcot Triangle has paid off, earning them a Keep Wales Tidy Green Flag Community Award in 2024.

A local resident commented, “it is such a lovely space to have for our neighbourhood, but before this, no one would even walk through it, let alone sit down. Now, whenever I walk past, I love seeing people enjoying the space.”
Penarth has always been a place where the community is connected. And locals of Arcot Street have always appreciated the potential in their pocket park, which has now become a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.
However, the gardeners of the group are always working hard to keep up with the maintenance of the open space, and would really benefit from more help from other green-fingered residents. They meet at the Triangle at 10am-12pm on the first Tuesday of the month from April to October, and would love to welcome new volunteers. The gatherings are friendly and social, requiring no special skills. Tasks range from tidying and sweeping to planting bulbs and summer bedding.
