We sat down with Sonic Alarm Systems’ Managing Director Peter Regan, one of the company’s longest-serving team members, and a new apprentice to talk about how experience and new talent go hand in hand.

Earlier this year, Sonic Alarm Systems became employee-owned, recognising the people who have helped build the business over almost five decades. The move ensures the company’s future remains in the hands of the team who make it what it is today.

Alongside that proud legacy is a commitment to the future – investing in and creating opportunities for the next generation of engineers and security professionals.

Peter believes the strength of Sonic lies in combining experience with fresh ideas. “Our long-serving team members have built incredible knowledge and trusted relationships with customers,” he says. “At the same time, welcoming apprentices brings new energy and ambition.”

Peter Regan – Managing Director

Why was investing in apprenticeships an important step for the business?

It’s about securing the future: bring new talent in, give them great training and ensure we have the skills we need to grow.

What are you most proud of when you look at the team you’ve built?

The loyalty and commitment. Many people have been with us for decades, and that says a lot about our culture.

What excites you most about the future of Sonic?

Seeing the next generation come through and knowing they take Sonic forward with the same values.

Nick Saywell – Senior Engineer

What has kept you at Sonic for so many years?

The people. It’s a great place to work, and you feel part of something bigger.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the industry?

Be curious, keep learning and don’t be afraid to ask questions. There’s always someone here willing to help.

How has the business changed during your time here?

Technology has moved on so much – from basic systems to the advanced solutions we install today. But our commitment to customers has never changed.

Jonah Smith – Apprentice

What attracted you to an apprenticeship with Sonic?

The chance to learn from experienced engineers and work with the latest technology. It’s the perfect start to my career.

What have you learned so far that has surprised you most?

How much there is to security systems – it’s really interesting and always evolving.

Where would you like your career to take you in the future?

I want to keep developing my skills and become one of the engineers that customers can rely on.
