Free multi-artist exhibition

The Esplanade, Penarth, CF64 3AU

These two respected galleries, standing at the eastern and southern points of our fair city, are joining forces in order to bring more art to more people across the region.

Offering free admission, they are laughing in the face of cuts to arts funding and are engaging with the community on a grass roots level, bringing together these two creative powerhouses and bringing their work to the people of Wales’ capital.

The exhibition will showcase a diverse collection of artwork from 21 emerging and established artists, including Michael de Bono, Alex Brown, Tim Fudge, and Penelope Timmis. Also featured are recent Albany Gallery exhibitors such as James Donovan, Matt Williams, Colin J Davies and Glen Carney.

What a great start to the spring- by the sea in Penarth, at this iconic Art Deco pavilion. As this is a pilot project, if you want to see it again, vote with your feet and go feast your senses.

Catrin Llwyd Evans’ In the Light of the Moon

Catrin Llwyd Evans- Gyda’r Hwyr • After Dark

Until 26th April

Set in the twilight hours between dusk and moonrise, these oil on canvas paintings are dark and moody. The colour palette is muted, save for a few examples of bright neon ground peeking through the painted image. The mark-making is confident, flowing and immediate, resulting in artworks full of painterly quality. Over the years, the scale of Llwyd Evans’s paintings have grown- from small watercolours to the biggest yet, a 170x150cm oil. In the Light of the Moon takes centre stage, a bright full moon in a cloudless dark sky above silhouetted tree-tops.

2nd May – 7th June

This exhibition will be on display during the much-anticipated Roath Gallery Weekend! That’s right- it’s back. Shani Rhys James

Shani Rhys James MBE- The Golden Echo

10th May – 8th June

Shani Rhys James’ paintings speak of the human condition. The Golden Echo– its title drawn from a poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins- is an exhibition that contemplates morality, hope and the essence of beauty. The recent energetic flower paintings are lyrical and uplifting, and reference an awareness and appreciation of nature. There is a juxtaposition between the fragility of human life and that of the flowers, whilst her portraits, with their assertive gaze, are captivating and charged with emotion. The paintings in this exhibition continue to challenge, provoke and thrill the observer with creative vision.
