Fresh from their December production of “Merry Wives of Windsor”, White Cat Theatre is set to bring Noël Coward’s ‘improbable farce in three acts’ to Dinas Powys this April.

“Blithe Spirit” sees socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, invite an eccentric medium and clairvoyant Madame Arcati to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book.

The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his wilful and temperamental first wife, Elvira, after the séance.

Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles’s marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see or hear the ghost.

The original 1945 film, staring Dame Margaret Rutherford as the hilarious Madame Arcati, is a childhood favourite of the one of the White Cat members, and was given a modern spin in the 2020 film adaptation with Dame Judi Dench starring in the role.
