The Pepper Seeds have been performing together for almost a decade and have developed a unique, soulful, funky sound. The Cardiff-based band consists of some of South Wales’ most experienced session musicians, each of whom perform extensively in numerous other settings: Dionne Bennett (vocals), Simon Kingman (guitar), Mark Sambell (keys), Jon Goode (bass), Gary James (drums).

This show at the festival marks the first of a series of UK festival performances for the band this year. Dates in Wales include Cowbridge Music Festival, Aberjazz in Aberystwyth and a return to Brecon Jazz Festival having headlined last year’s event to great acclaim.

Tonight’s performance will feature three sets, each drawing upon a distinct style showcasing the band’s diverse repertoire and range. The first set features songs taken from the jazz songbook, with a particular focus on the music of Nina Simone. The second features tracks from the world of latin and latin jazz, with tracks by the likes of Antonio Carlos Jobim, George Duke and Corduroy. The final set draws from funk and soul, featuring music by Marvin Gaye, The Stylistics, Donny Hathaway, The Meters and more. There will be something for everyone, from swinging jazz standards to funky grooves. Feel free to bring your dancing shoes or just relax and enjoy an evening of great live music!
