Penarth Chamber Music Festival: Opening Concert
The festival opens and closes with 2 of Dvorak’s finest chamber works, the fresh and folky Piano Quartet in D major to start and the luxurious and radiant String Sextet to finish. The 2nd movement of Dvorak’s Piano Quartet perhaps pays homage to Schubert’s great quartet Death and the Maiden which you can hear on Friday night and the whole pice is embued with Dvorak’s innate sense of melody. We’re delighted to have the incredible soprano Claire Booth with us to sing Ravel’s wondrous Chansons Madécasses. Beethoven rewrote the rule book with his quartet Op.59 no.1 and it is now one of his most popular and everlasting works.
