Quartet Draig, Chamber Concert – Welsh Fairytales & Folklore

The young and dynamic ensemble ‘Quartet Draig’ return to Penarth Pavilion for the third concert in their 2023 residency.

Recently announced as Young Artists at the prestigious Cowbridge Music Festival, the quartet are an emerging ensemble committed to making classical music exciting and engaging for all audiences. As musicians they perform with leading UK orchestras, including with orchestras local to South Wales such as BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Welsh National Opera and Sinfonia Cymru. They met many years ago during their studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and always love being able to perform in venues close to where they first began playing together.

The programme of this concert is on a theme of ‘Welsh Fairytale and Folklore’. Quartet Draig will be performing an original work incorporating traditional Welsh folk tunes presented in a fresh and energetic format, a beautiful fantasy piece by the Welsh composer David Vaughan Thomas (re-discovered by the group), and ‘Llyn y Fan Fach’ by Mark David Boden. This last piece was written especially for the Quartet Draig and tells the enchanting Welsh fairytale of ’The Lady of the Lake’.

Prepare to be swept into the magical world of Welsh Fairytale and Folklore and be captivated by the beautiful melodies, exciting folk tunes, and sublime sound of a professional string quartet!
