The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Big Band: Gershwin to Goodwin!

This concert is part of the RWCMD-in-Residence programme, a series of creative projects from Royal Welsh College musicians and recent graduates, presented in partnership with Penarth Pier Pavilion.

The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama Big Band comprises of students currently studying at the College and is populated by current students from the under- graduate and post-graduate courses on both Jazz and Classical Music courses.

For this concert, the RWCMD Big Band will be performing a wide and varied selection of classic and contemporary Big Band numbers ranging from the Basie, Ellington era to the more contemporary repertoire of Goodwin and Schneider.

RWCMD Big Band rehearses weekly under the current Musical Director Ceri Rees and enjoys a varied and successful concert program throughout the academic year both at the College and further afield.

The Band has recently been featured in a series of concerts at the RWCMD for both its annual jazz festival and recently a tribute concert to the music of the American Big Bands and Sinatra and Basie at the Sands.

RWCMD Big Band has also appeared at the Swansea International Jazz festival to much critical acclaim and regularly performs for the South Wales Big Band Society.

Under the direction of Ceri Rees RWCMD Big Band are very much looking forward to their inaugural performance at Penarth Pier Pavilion!
