Ancient Egypt is one of the oldest civilisations in the world, stretching back 5000 years. Join us for a introduction to the major events of Egyptian history from the Old Kingdom and the pyramids to the conquest by the Persians and then Alexander the Great. The kingdom rose and fell many times over this vast time period an gave us a wealth of fascinating treasures: temples, tombs, hieroglyphics, sarcophagi and mummies, are jewellery and colossal architecture. We’ll look at the god-kings and queens, like Ramesses and Nefertiti, but also the lives of the ordinary folk, their beliefs and lifestyles, as well as Egyptian mythology and the Book of the Dead- plus Tutankhamun’s ducks, Hatshepsut’s false beard and the first known cat in history.
