Where the Birds Sing Our Names- An Evening of Poetry for Tŷ Hafan

Where the birds sing our names

When the children pass on

Their names are put into Morse Code, dot and dash,

Robin, blackbird, wren and thrush-

These name-notes are played as you pass each tree

In the woods around Tŷ Hafan, the house-haven

‘Where the Birds Sing Our Names’ is an anthology of poetry and lyrics published to raise money for Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice in Sully. Edited by Tony Curtis, this beautiful anthology features some of the UK’s best loved poets and writers, from National Poets Gillian Clarke and Gwyneth Lewis, to Max Boyce and Lord Rowan Williams.

The title celebrates the memory of each Tŷ Hafan child with a bird song. For each child that passes away at the hospice, a recorded sound imprint is created by turning their name into morse-code and sampling bird song around it. The recording is played in the hospice grounds, with a copy of the song given to the child’s family.

Join us for a wonderful evening of poetry at All Saints Church in Penarth in the company of Welsh poets and anthology contributors Tony Curtis, Philip Gross, Abeer Ameer, Rob Walton and more. Full line-up to be announced soon.

This special evening to raise money for Tŷ Hafan is organised by Griffin Books in partnership with poet and editor of Where the Birds Sing Our Names, Tony Curtis. Every penny raised by the sale of this book goes to Tŷ Hafan. No publication fees or other charges are deducted. Any additional profits raised from this event (minus overheads, including venue hire, staffing etc.) will be donated to Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice.
