Your Social Connection – Behind Your Why with Rhys Thomas

Are you ready to embark on an unforgettable journey of resilience, ambition, and determination? If so, join us for our next Your Social Connection meet-up on the 20th of July. This time, we have the honour of hosting Rhys Muir Thomas, an inspirational figure whose life story is as compelling as it is transformative.

Born and bred in Johannesburg, South Africa, Rhys ventured to the land of his father, South Wales, to chase his dreams of professional rugby. He stepped into the field as a prop forward for Newport RFC in 2003, quickly ascending the ranks to become a key player.

His international debut for Wales came in 2006, marking the beginning of a prominent career that included riveting performances against powerhouses like Argentina and South Africa. Rhys proudly wore the Wales jersey seven times, carrying his team’s hopes and aspirations on his robust shoulders.

However, life had other plans. Rhys’s journey took a sharp turn in 2012 when a heart attack during training led to an emergency operation and his subsequent retirement from the sport he loved.

Rhys’s story took a twist. After facing some of life’s toughest adversaries – depression, mental health, and substance misuse – he fought back. Now, he shares his journey, not just of survival, but of becoming a source of inspiration and resilience for others.

Join us as we dive behind Rhys Why as he shares his unique journey—his challenges, triumphs, and what it truly means to pick yourself up and start again. It’s an intimate, no-holds-barred exploration of a man’s journey through the peaks and valleys of life.
