Here You Come Again: A Review

Experience Dolly Parton’s greatest hits in this uplifting, joyous new musical comedy, Here You Come Again at the Wales Millennium Centre.

Set on the backdrop of 2020, during the heart of lockdown, the story follows 40 year-old Kevin, a die-hard Dolly Parton fan who is struggling to cope in isolation, until his favourite country music singer appears to him to guide him through these trying times.

This show was surprisingly hilarious, with Kevin being played by Steven Webb, whose dynamic, upbeat and energetic performance had the audience routing for him from the start. Using those memorable moments from our times in lockdown, we all saw parts of ourselves in Kevin. Steven Webb’s portrayal of those hardships was incredible to watch. With funny quips punctuated with the harsh realities of the pandemic led to a powerful performance.

Stepping into the role of one of the most iconic and beloved singers of all time, Tricia Paoluccio had a daunting task in front of her. But her portrayal of Dolly Parton was unexpectedly brilliant, especially in her impressive adoption of the singers mannerisms and notable voice. Safe to say she wowed the audience from her very first, wonderfully dramatic, entrance onto stage.

And I can’t not mention the outstanding elaborate staging and the talent of the technical design. From the moment the curtain rose, I was enamoured. As well as the addition of the onstage band and backing vocalists, Aidan Cutler and Charlotte Elisabeth Yorke
