The Cardiff Christmas Festival has returned to Sophia Gardens, and with it comes a brand‑new festive treat: Jack Frost: A Magical Christmas Musical. Staged inside the elegant Spiegeltent theatre, the production immediately sets the mood for the season. Twinkling lights, rich décor, and a space that feels tailor‑made for Christmas magic.
I was invited along to review the show, and from the moment I stepped inside the Spiegeltent it was clear this was going to be something special.

This heart‑warming musical is clearly designed with children in mind, but there’s plenty here for all ages to enjoy. With upbeat songs, lively choreography, and a story that balances festive fun with a touch of winter wonder, it’s the kind of show that leaves audiences smiling long after it’s finished.

The cast — Logan Burrows, Kate Powell, James Rockey, Mia Jae, and Molly Mae Fisher — were all excellent, bringing energy and warmth to the stage. Each performer engaged brilliantly with the younger audience members, drawing them into the story and keeping the atmosphere buzzing throughout. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and it gave the production a joyful, communal feel.

At just 19, Logan Burrows from the Vale of Glamorgan led the company with confidence and charm in the title role, Jack Frost. Having performed since the age of three, his career already includes appearances alongside West End stars such as Jason Donovan in Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Carrie Hope Fletcher and Lee Mead in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He has also worked with Welsh National Opera on productions including Carmen, The Magic Flute, and The Cunning Little Vixen. Trained at the Royal Ballet Associates and even choreographing the Wales amateur premiere of Phantom of the Opera, Burrows brought all that experience to the stage here. Bursting with talent and perfectly capturing the magic and fun of Jack Frost.

What makes Jack Frost stand out is its ability to combine traditional pantomime‑style humour with the sparkle of a Christmas musical. The songs were catchy and spirited, the pacing never lagged, and the whole show radiated festive cheer. For families, it’s a perfect introduction to live theatre.

As part of the Cardiff Christmas Festival, Jack Frost: A Magical Christmas Musical sits alongside a varied line‑up of seasonal events, from A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story for Christmas to The Rat Pack A Swingin’ Christmas and even a Taylor Swift‑themed celebration. Running from the 4th to 28th December, the festival offers something for everyone, but Jack Frost is undoubtedly one of its highlights for younger audiences and families.
With its lively energy, engaging cast, and the magical setting of the Spiegeltent, Jack Frost is a show that captures the spirit of the season perfectly. Whether you’re bringing children for their first taste of theatre or simply looking to soak up some festive joy, this musical is a delightful addition to Cardiff’s Christmas celebrations.
