Kinky Boots The Musical: A Review

Glitz, glam and very high heels, the hit award-winning musical, Kinky Boots is at the Wales Millennium Centre and I was lucky enough to be invited to come and review it.

This sensational story follows Charlie Price who inherits his father’s struggling shoe factory. Backed into a corner, Charlie desperately tries to find a way to save the factory and then he meets Lola, a bold, eccentric drag queen who’s passion and sparkle might just be his saving grace.

What a show this was! An incredibly lively and flamboyant production with it’s uplifting and inspiring story mirroring some darker realities. A reflection of passion, struggles and acceptance, you can’t help but leave feeling inspired. Everything from the dazzling costumes, stunning sets and a track that will have you dancing in your seat.

They say a cast makes a show and this company definitely proved that right. Johannes Radebe as Lola was simply sensational! Commonly seen on Strictly Come Dancing, Johannes gave us an unforgettable performance, showing off what a triple-threat he is! And playing alongside him, Dan Partridge as Charlie Price, who gave us a whole-hearted, moving performance.

Courtney Bowman as Lauren and Scott Paige as George were particular audience favourites. Their humourous quips and brilliant physical comedy had the audience in stitches. And Lauren certainly showed off her vocal talents in ‘The History Of Wrong Guys’.

And the rest of the cast, Newtion Matthews as Simon Sr, Kara Lily Hayworth as Nicola, Joe Caffrey as Don, Kathryn Barnes as Pat, Lucy Williamson as Trish, Jonathan Dryden Taylor as Mr Price, Liam Doyle as Harry, Kofi Dennis, Ru Fisher, Liam McEvoy, Ben Middleton, Ashley-Jordon Packer, Cerys Burton, Kay Farrugia, Cole Dunn, Deena Kapadia, Jordon Isaac and Tori McDougall. Each member of this cast gave us a powerful, high-energy performance adding to the spectacular chorus numbers.
