Literary adaptations – love them or loathe them – are a huge part of our cultural landscape
I’m currently mourning the Bridgerton-shaped hole in my life after binge-watching series four. I haven’t actually read the books (and *whispers* don’t intend to), but I love the escapism the series delivers – and for me, that’s enough.
Emerald Fennell’s high profile adaptation of Wuthering Heights has caused quite a stir among literary purists. Whether you adored her take on the Brontë classic or are refusing to watch on principle, we should celebrate the fact that it has introduced a new generation of readers to the book.
With so many adaptations (and even re-adaptations) in the pipeline, I can hear you asking: are there any new stories left to tell?
The answer is an emphatic YES!
As booksellers, we’re continually surprised and delighted by the sheer number of original, inventive novels hitting the shelves each week. For every familiar title reimagined for a modern audience, there are countless fresh voices quietly crafting the stories that may well become tomorrow’s classics.
If you’re looking for something a little bit different, you can trust one of our expert booksellers to find your next great read.
