Our approach to editorial
At View Publishing, we believe that how content is created matters just as much as what it says. Our platforms exist to amplify voices, tell local stories well, and give businesses and organisations a credible place to be seen and heard. That only works when originality, authorship and transparency are taken seriously.
Original editorial
Much of the content we publish is original editorial. This includes commissioned features, interviews, advertorials and opinion pieces written specifically for View titles by a selection of writers.
Original editorial is:
- Written for a specific audience and place
- Commissioned, edited and published by View
- Credited clearly to its author
- Protected as part of our responsibility to writers and clients
This work represents time, craft and trust. Protecting its integrity ensures that the voices on our platform retain their meaning and value.
Press releases and supplied content
We will also publish press releases and supplied content from businesses and organisations, where we feel there is a clear benefit to our readers. When we do so, we strive to make this clear. Articles derived from press releases are labelled as such and may be lightly edited for clarity, grammar and alignment with our house style. This allows us to:
- Maintain transparency with readers
- Respect the original source of the material
- Distinguish clearly between journalism and promotion
Why distinction matters
Clear signposting between original editorial and supplied material is important for everyone involved.
For readers, it builds trust.
For contributors, it protects their words.
For advertisers, it preserves the value of their investment with us.
When content is copied, reused without permission, or stripped of context, that trust is weakened. Stories become generic. Voices lose definition. The work stops doing what it was meant to do. And we take care to avoid that.
Our responsibility as a publisher
As an independent publisher, we see it as our responsibility to:
- Commission and credit original work properly
- Be transparent about supplied and promotional content
- Protect the integrity of work published through our platforms
- Respect the voices and stories entrusted to us
This isn’t about gatekeeping or limiting reach. It’s about making sure stories travel in the right way, with clarity, consent and care.
Doing things properly
In a fast-moving digital landscape, it can be tempting to blur lines or take shortcuts. We choose not to.
Original stories still matter.
Proper credit still matters.
Obvious standards still matter.
They’re the reason readers return to us, contributors trust us, and local businesses choose to tell their stories through View. That’s the difference we work to uphold, issue after issue in print, and online as well.
