This summer, one of Britain’s best-loved sitcoms springs back to life as Fawlty Towers: The Play arrives at the Wales Millennium Centre, bringing all the chaos, confusion and classic comedy that made the television series a national treasure.

Among the stellar cast is the ever-popular Paul Nicholas, a veteran of stage and screen, who takes on the role of The Major, the eccentric retired army officer who absent-minded stories and old-fashioned views provided some of the TV shows most memorable moments.

Paul Nicholas has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than five decades. His breakthrough came when he landed the title role of Jesus in the original West End production of Jesus Christ Superstar, establishing himself as one of Britain’s leading musical theatre stars. He later became a household name through hit television series including Just Good Friends, while also enjoying a successful career in theatre, television and music.

Speaking about the production, Paul said: “I’ve always loved Fawlty Towers. To step into that world, with its madcap energy and iconic characters, is a real treat. Cardiff audiences are fantastic and I’m looking forward to bringing the show back to Wales.”

Joining Nicholas is an outstanding cast including former Strictly Come Dancing champion Joanne Clifton who plays Polly, Danny Bayne as Basil Fawlty, Mia Austen as Sybil Fawlty, Hemi Yeroham as Manuel and Jemma Churchill as Mrs Richards bringing John Cleese and Connie Booth’s iconic characters to life. Together, they recreate the frantic farce, razor-sharp wit and unforgettable moments that have delighted audiences for generations.

Adapted by the original creators, Fawlty Towers: The Play combines three classic episodes – Communication Problems, Hotel Inspectors and The Germans bringing some of sitcom’s greatest moments to the stage capturing the spirit of the classic while introducing it to a whole new audience.

From Basil’s endless mishaps to Manuel’s misunderstandings and Sybil’s cutting remarks, fans can expect all the ingredients that made the series one of the most celebrated comedies ever written.

With Paul Nicholas bringing his wealth of stage and television experience to the role of The Mayor, this production promises an evening of nostalgia, laughter and first-class entertainment.
