Shrek The Musical: A Review
He’s mean, he’s green and he’s taking to the big stage.
Shrek The Musical is now at the Wales Millennium Centre and I was lucky enough to be invited to come and review it.
It’s a story we all know and love, so I was excited to see how it would translate on stage. Anthony Lawrence led the cast as Shrek, giving the us an animated performance, bringing this iconic character to life. Along with his sidekick Donkey, portrayed by Brandon Lee Sears and the Princess Fiona, portrayed by Joanne Clifton, the audience embarks on their journey with them in this lively, hilarious tale.
This show is the perfect night out for the whole family, with big lively numbers, flashy costumes and funny one-liners. What’s not to love? It’s a story of friendship, true love and acceptance- it’s not to be missed.
The energy of this show was palpable, with every cast member giving us their all. A special mention has to go to Cherece Richards who plays Dragon (and the Witch), who’s song ‘Forever’ left the audience with goosebumps. An unbelievable talent. And James Gillan, who plays Lord Farquaad took on the role of the iconic eccentric villain with flare, portraying the character we all love, while also putting his own hilarious spin on it. He had the audience in stitches with his dynamic performance. The rest of the cast, Leo Abad, Scotty Armstrong, Imogen Bailey, Jabari Braham, Georgie Buckland, Natasha Cayabyab, Mark Darcy, Jonathan David Dudley, Remi Ferdinand, Sonny Grieveson, Edward Leigh, Bethany Kate, Jesicca Lim, Andile Mabhena, Bronte MacMillan and India Thornton all added to the vibrant energy on stage and brought this story to life.
It’s the must-see show for the young and young at heart. Shrek the Musical will be at the Wales Millennium Centre until the 25th November, so get your tickets now because they’re selling out fast!
