Supporting Marie Curie in Memory of Joan Holland

Nestled in the heart of Penarth, Willmore’s 1938 is more than just a café — it’s a community hub, a place where friends and families come together to enjoy great food and warm hospitality. Since opening its doors, Willmore’s has become a local favourite, offering a welcoming atmosphere and a true passion for quality food. But beyond the food, coffee, and friendly service, Willmore’s has always been about people- especially family.

For Matt Holland, Willmore’s isn’t just a business; it’s a tribute to the people who mean the most. Following the passing of his beloved mum, Joan Holland, on 26 February 2025, Matt and the family have felt an incredible outpouring of love and support from their customers. Joan was more than Matt’s mum — she was a vibrant part of the café, a ray of sunshine who brought joy to everyone she met. She was Willmore’s biggest fan, cheering on the team through every challenge and milestone.

Now, in Joan’s memory, Matt and the family are taking on the Beat the Gower Coast 2025 challenge to raise money for Marie Curie. On 6 September 2025, they will embark on a 12- or 24-mile trail across the stunning Gower Peninsula, trekking through breathtaking landscapes, from the golden sands of Rhossili Bay to the rolling hills and coastal cliffs. The event honours Joan’s legacy while raising crucial funds to support Marie Curie’s incredible work.

Every donation makes a difference. £3 provides a meal for a hospice patient, £26 funds an hour of bereavement support, and £207 covers nine hours of overnight nursing care.
