A new multi-roaster speciality coffee shop is now open at 13 Kings Road, Pontcanna.

Sway, which with its cosy, colour-drenched interior takes aesthetic inspiration from the world of cocktail bars, will initially feature a carefully curated menu of twelve coffees roasted by four roasters based out of Bristol, Amsterdam, Montreal and Zurich. It occupies the unit next door to Ogof, a natural wine and small plates restaurant which opened in the Autumn of 2025 and has since garnered a cult following in the locale.

The new venue is a venture by Katy Sharp, who has spent several years within the Cardiff Coffee Community (most recently at Corner Coffee’s bustling high street location), and in the meantime acquired a plethora of accredited coffee training through the Speciality Coffee Association’s UK chapter, as well as achieving their Evolved Q Grade certification. It is her first business venture, and it made sense to her to open it in her home neighbourhood on the borders of Pontcanna and Canton.

Unique, at least in within Cardiff, is her decision to make the Brew Bar a focal point of the shop: guests can pull up a chair, explore the menu, and watch their coffee be made right in front of them. For those who are drinking solo, or new to the neighbourhood, it’s a low-pressure invitation to feel part of the Sway tribe – whether they’ve come to drink a hand brewed Panama Geisha or are happy with a deliciously simple house flat white. The venue will discourage the use of laptops in favour of building a space driven by connection, conversation, and singing along to the exclusively hiphop shop playlist.

Perhaps the best part? The tranquil sun trap of a back garden, which is truly a hidden gem on Kings Road and the perfect place, over the upcoming bank holiday weekend, to settle down with an ice latte and a good book.

Initially, Sway will open five days a week (Thursday through Monday), 9.30am-4.30pm.
