Tŷ Hafan Care Team To Tackle 25k For 25 years
Thirty members of Tŷ Hafan care team are gearing up to walk 25 kilometres from the centre of Cardiff to the charity’s hospice in Sully next month in a bid to raise £10,000.
The ’25k for 25 years’ challenge will take place on September 8th and has been created by the care team themselves to mark Tŷ Hafan’s first 25 years.
The challenge, which is sponsored by Cabot Corporation, will see Tŷ Hafan’s clinical and community care teams walk from Roath Park in Cardiff through Bute Park, Cardiff Bay, Penarth ending at Tŷ Hafan’s hospice in Sully.
Their aim is to raise £10,000 to go towards a specially adapted vehicle to enable the children and young people who are supported by Tŷ Hafan to enjoy more opportunities in the community.
Deputy Lead Nurse Meg Fears, is one of the organisers of the 25k for 25 years challenge. Says Meg: “A fundamental part of our role is supporting children and young people to have the best quality of life and make precious memories. Our ambition is to raise money to get a new adapted vehicle to take children and young people out on trips and have access to different opportunities within the community.”
“This is such a significant cause for us as a hospice team as we feel that the importance of making memories in what can be the hardest of times is absolutely essential,” says Kat Morris, Registered Nurse and co-organiser of the challenge.
“Being able to put money towards the cost of a new fully adapted vehicle will give resident children the opportunity to be able to do these things, we have seen the impact that trips out can bring, be it a little walk on the beach or going to a farm – these small moments bring some fun to what these children are facing every day.”
“We know the importance of creating memories and that they will be cherished by the children, young people and their families forever,” adds Meg.
“Tŷ Hafan’s ambition is to support as many children and families as possible. We are proud to be part of the nursing team at Tŷ Hafan and have the privilege to be part of these precious moments.”
“Sadly, thousands of families in Wales live every day knowing their child’s life will be short,” says Claire Horrex, Community Fundraising Manager.
“At the moment, they often face this without any care or support. Alone. Afraid. Isolated. Tŷ Hafan’s ambition is that when a child’s life will be short, no family should have to live it on their own.”
