The Bodyguard is a stage adaptation of the 1992 romantic thriller film The Bodyguard starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. Having premiered in London’s West End in 2012, and has since had successful runs in various countries around the world, it is now at Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre until 29 April 2023.

The production showcased some of the best talents in the industry, with Melody Thornton as Rachel Marron, Ayden Callaghan as Frank Farmer, Emily-Mae as Nicki Marron, James Groom as Sy Spector, and a particularly outstanding performance by Frankie Keita as Fletcher.

The show’s plot revolves around Rachel Marron, a music superstar who hires Frank Farmer as her bodyguard to protect her from an unknown stalker. As the story unfolds, we witness the development of a romantic relationship between Rachel and Frank, complicated by the stalker’s escalating threats and Rachel’s refusal to follow Frank’s safety protocols, putting them all in danger. The character of Fletcher, Rachel’s young son, is an integral part of the storyline, and Frankie Keita’s performance as the young actor is nothing short of amazing. He was confident, charismatic, and held his own on the Donald Gordon stage, winning over the hearts of the audience.

Melody Thornton, a former member of the Pussycat Dolls, played Rachel Marron, and her performance was remarkable. Her rendition of the iconic song I Will Always Love You was one of the highlights of the show, and her chemistry with Ayden Callaghan’s Frank Farmer was palpable. Callaghan’s portrayal of Frank Farmer was stoic, yet vulnerable, and his performance was fantastic. Emily-Mae played Nicki Marron, Rachel’s sister, and her rendition of Saving All My Love For You was one of the standout performances of the show.

The show’s exploration of relationships amidst the chaos of danger and fame made for an engaging and captivating production that left the audience spellbound.
