Paintings To Make You Smile

Porthcawl artist David Robinson exhibits in Cowbridge

Cowbridge Old Hall will host a solo show by David Robinson this September. The exhibition will include a range of his popular seaside paintings, with sea swimmers and seagulls as well as as several characters tucking into chips and ice cream!

A member of Cowbridge Art Society and a participant in this year’s National Eisteddfod art exhibition, Y Lle Celf, David comments, “I wanted to put on an exhibition that everyone can enjoy, whether or not they’re into art”. With both traditional landscapes and more whimsical, imaginative pieces, David explains “We’ve had a difficult few years- with two family bereavements last year- but through art I can look around and give value to all that we have locally: beautiful landscapes, great community and people full of humour and wit”. Drawing inspiration from the much-loved Beryl Cook, but also John Elwyn, Norman Cornish and Ruskin Spear, David’s work is very much connected to local life and upbeat- “I really do feel privileged to be able to live and work here in South Wales- and I’d like to share some of that joy in my work”.

David’s exhibition ‘Living the dream’ will open at Cowbridge Old Hall (CF71 7AF) weekdays 10am-4pm, from 3-26 September, admission free.
