We popped by for the trial opening of Hubbub earlier this month and were blown away by the transformation. Found on Stanwell Road, Hubbub is more than just a vintage shop, it’s a vibrant, hands-on project run by the staff and students of Ysgol y Deri, bringing style, sustainability, and social impact together under one roof.

Earlier in the year, we met up with Stacey Long, curriculum lead for careers and work-related experiences at Ysgol y Deri, to take a look at the space before it opened. Back then, Hubbub was still in its early stages. A vintage-style store with big plans to become a training facility, offering pupils practical work experience in retail and customer service. From the start, it was clear this wasn’t just your typical vintage and preloved shop. It was about creating opportunity, building confidence, and giving students a real sense of ownership.

Now officially open, Hubbub offers a carefully curated mix of preloved fashion, homeware, and quirky treasures, all at affordable prices. Students are involved in every part of the process, from sorting donations and styling displays to customer service and day-to-day operations. It’s a space where learning meets real-world experience, and where every purchase supports both the school and the wider community.

Much of the stock and shop fittings, including shelves, desks, and display units, have been generously donated by local businesses and residents, and the shop continues to support local creators through featured items and collaborations. It’s a brilliant example of Penarth’s community spirit in action.

Whether you’re after a retro jacket, unique gift or just want to support a meaningful local initiative, Hubbub on Stanwell Road is well worth a visit.
