Christmas! Let’s Have A Good One

It’s not being a Scrooge to be health conscious over the festive season, regardless of what response you get! It’s your health, you can say no, you can say yes. It’s always your choice. However, there are ways to make Christmas a particularly healthier season.

Be organised

Start your days with a good, clean, filling breakfast. This can look like yogurt with fruit, granola, tahini, nut butter, eggs, avocado, tofu, mushrooms and so much more.

Drink your water

Stay hydrated. Fill your water bottle and sip throughout the day.

Sleep

There may be late nights, but when there aren’t late nights, be sure to stick to your good, early night routine. Sleep is key.

Exercise

A brisk walk in the park with friends or family, a walk through our beautiful countryside or along the coast, a trip along the cycle path- the list is endless. Let’s hope for dry weather, but how amazing is a walk in the rain!

Are you going to a party with a buffet?

Eat a protein snack before you go! This will keep you full and help you not to succumb to the temptations. Choose the salad, vegetables, and protein options from the table. Move away from the buffet table, and be sociable far away from temptation.

Meals

Be sure to eat your main meal of protein and fibre in an attempt to sway the dessert options.

Eat consciously, be present

Engage with those you’re sharing a meal with. Leave all stress at the door.

Alcohol

Your body won’t want you drinking alcohol, but if you are going to have a tipple, choose drinks lower in alcohol and alternate a drink with water. Aim for one alcoholic drink per hour to spread out your alcohol intake. You can also support your liver by taking in dandelion root, broccoli, kale, brussel sprouts, garlic and cabbage. They all support the liver’s detoxification pathways.

Connection

Most importantly, remember it’s not all about the food and drink. It is about the company, the connection, and the memories you make.
