Christmas shopping, festive windows, presents, parties and plenty of food. Delving into newspaper archives reveals that while Cowbridge has changed considerably, the excitement of Christmas in the town feels remarkably familiar.

^ Glamorgan Gazette, 14 December 1894 – In 1894, Miss Davis’s Cowbridge Christmas showroom delighted shoppers with an extraordinary selection of gifts, decorations, toys and festive novelties.

^ Cardiff Times, 8 December 1883 – In 1883, Cowbridge Farmers’ Club’s Christmas livestock show attracted exceptional cattle, sheep and pigs, with over £113 offered in prizes.

^ Western Mail, 28 December 1954 – In 1954, Pencoed’s Mari Lwyd tradition survived, with performers visiting Vale inns, exchanging Welsh rhymes and celebrating Christmas folklore.
