Noirvember: Double Indemnity (1944)
Double Indemnity
Dir. Billy Wilder | 1944 | 107 mins | B&W | USA | English | PG
A Los Angeles insurance representative (Fred McMurray) lets an alluring housewife (Barbara Stanwyck) seduce him into a scheme of insurance fraud and murder that arouses the suspicion of his colleague, an insurance investigator (Edward G Robinson). This may well be the ultimate film noir – adapted by Raymond Chandler from the James M Cain novel, full of witty, hard-boiled dialogue, and with Barbara Stanwyck in an iconic femme-fatale role. Don’t miss it.
Why you should see it: because it’s a stone-cold classic
