Noirvember: The Long Goodbye (1973)
The Long Goodbye
Dir. Robert Altman | 1973 | 112 mins | Colour | USA | English | 18
Private investigator Philip Marlowe (Elliott Gould) helps a friend out of a jam, but in doing so gets implicated in his wife’s murder. Altman’s gritty 1970s take on film noir is one of the great detective dramas of the decade… even though it takes a thoroughly different approach to the genre. Fabulous.
Why you should see it: because Elliott Gould makes a fascinating, schlubby Philip Marlowe.
