There’s always a cuppa, a friendly face and someone to talk to.

Sometimes, the simplest ideas can make the biggest difference.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bluebird Care Cardiff and the Vale saw the impact that the closure of day centres and community services had on local people, particularly those living with dementia and other health challenges. Alongside the loss of familiar routines came loneliness and isolation.

The team wanted to create somewhere people could simply come along, enjoy a cuppa and spend time with others. And so, the first Forget Me Not Hub was created in Cowbridge.

Designed as a relaxed, café-style space, the Hubs offer a warm welcome, conversation and companionship, completely free of charge. What started as one small community initiative has since grown, with a second Hub opening in Radyr and a third planned for Llantwit Major.

The Cowbridge Hub, relocating to Longmeadow, is open Mondays and Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm. The Radyr Hub, based at Radyr Hub Library, is open Mondays from 10.30am to 1.30pm and Fridays from 2pm to 4pm.

At the heart of the Hubs are the people who make everyone feel welcome. Nicola leads the Cowbridge Hub, while Jay brings the same warmth and sense of belonging to Radyr.

There are no referrals, membership fees or complicated arrangements. Just a friendly place to meet people, enjoy a cuppa and feel part of the community.

As Forget Me Not continues to grow, its message remains simple: everyone deserves somewhere to belong.

From companionship and a little extra help around the home to more complex care needs, our experienced team supports people to remain independent and live life on their own terms.
