Head of Zeus Acquires ‘Escape to the Swiss Chalet’ by Carrie Walker
Aria has scooped Carrie Walker’s Escape to the Swiss Chalet, a “hilarious and escapist rom-com” set in the alps.
Commissioning editor Martina Arzu acquired world all language rights for two European-set novels directly from Walker, and will be publishing in November 2023.
Escape to the Swiss Chalet follows Holly Roberts who takes a job in the Swiss Alps after a difficult break-up and makes a new friend, Liv. The publisher’s synopsis said: “Escape to the Swiss Chalet is a heart-warming, fun read for anyone who needs a holiday from life but can’t afford the ticket!”
Walker said, “I’ve so loved delving into Holly’s world as she navigates the fabulous slopes of Verbier and gets tot grips with mountain life. It’s the total flipside of her London existence and a story of how sometimes changing your environment, can unexpectedly change your life.
“Writing this book took me back to the heady days of my own ski season, remembering the freedom and exhilaration of literally being on top of the world and living each day to the full.”
Arzu commented: “It’s been an utter pleasure working on this book with Carrie. Her writing has that effortless quality of being funny without trying and her quick turn of phrase had me laughing more times than I can count. This book is a true tonic for anyone who needs a holiday from life.
“I can’t wait for readers to fall in love with Holly and live vicariously through her- as she eats her way through too many fondues, miraculously survives falling off ski lifts, and dances her worries away at some fabulous après-skis!”
