High Performance LIVE: A Review
If you’re looking for inspiration, motivation or new ways of understanding yourself, this show is just what you need.
I was lucky enough to be invited to go and watch High Performance LIVE at the Wales Millennium Centre last night, for their latest stop on their tour. Hosts Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes have taken their popular motivational podcast, High Performance to the stage, to share their knowledge and experiences on how to live your own high performance life.
I didn’t know much about this podcast before going to watch the show, so I was unsure of what to expect. It’s a hard balance to strike when giving advice to people on how to live their lives. It’s easy to fall into the trap of being condescending or just reeling off empty quotes you’d find on a poster. But from the start, I could see that this show was going to be something different. It felt relaxed, friendly. It was like listening to a friend giving you advice.
Something else that drew me in about this show is the realness of it. If two people had come on stage and spouted about how perfect their lives were and that they have never faced troubles or set backs, it can be hard to relate and trust what their saying. But Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes both opened up about their struggles with mental health and the challenges they have faced. Jake talks about how he views weakness and strength, “it’s the struggle that gives us the thrill.”
Another thing I liked about this show was its lack of materialism. A lot of these kind of talks focus on working to the point of exhaustion and making as much money as you can. But High Performance isn’t about making the most money, having the best cars, or being the best person in the room. It’s about learning to become the best version of yourself and achieving the goals you want to achieve. Whether it’s starting a business, getting that new job or taking care of your family. This show inspires you to reach your full potential and start to think about where you want your life to go.
With inspiring clips from previous podcasts and guests appearances from former Welsh rugby player, Jamie Roberts, author and psychotherapist Owen O’Kane, and singer songwriter Kye Sones, the audience gets to hear from a variety of people, all achieving their own version of a high performance life.
Whatever your goals are in life, whatever struggles you may have faced in the past, this show has something for everyone. Even if you take just one thing from it, it will be worth it.
The High Performance LIVE show will be continuing it’s tour until the 3rd July, moving on next to the G Live venue in Guildford, then the Grand Theatre in Leeds and finally The Lowry in Salford. You can find your tickets on their website.
