With 24 years’ experience in optometry, Andy Moss is one of the familiar faces helping Penarth residents look after their eyesight.

Andy is an optometrist director at Specsavers Penarth, where he works alongside fellow director James Deavall and a team of 12 colleagues, including six optometrists.

He says that one of the most rewarding parts of the job is getting to know the people who he treats.

“Every day brings something different — you never quite know what someone is going to come through the door needing help with.

“For me, the most important part is taking the time to listen. Sometimes people just need someone to explain things clearly or put their mind at ease, and being able to do that is a really rewarding part of the job.”

The locally owned and run Penarth store offers a broad range of eye care services, including routine eye tests and treatment for minor eye conditions. Its Independent Prescribing (IP) capabilities also mean the team can assess and manage more serious and complex eye conditions within the business.

The team has also recently developed its specialist dry eye service, offering tailored assessments and treatments for customers experiencing ongoing symptoms.

Andy adds: “Offering a wide range of care here in Penarth is a privilege, meaning we can help our community with more than just routine eye tests while still giving them that familiar, personal experience you expect. You get to know your customers over time and that relationship is a big part of what makes the job so enjoyable.”
