The Book of Mormon: A Review
Going into The Book of Mormon, I had no idea what to expect. What I got was a jaw-droppingly funny, sharp, and wildly entertaining night of theatre. With a powerhouse cast, catchy soundtrack, and impressively detailed set design, this show is nothing short of a theatrical event.
The plot follows two mismatched Mormon missionaries—ambitious Elder Price (Adam Bailey) and awkward, eager-to-please Elder Cunningham (Sam Glen)—as they’re sent to a remote village in Uganda to spread the word of God. But their mission turns out to be far more complicated, and absurd, than either of them imagined. What unfolds is a brilliantly written satire that takes bold swings at religion, culture, and Western ignorance—without ever losing its heart.

The show strikes a razor-sharp balance between outrageous humor and deeper themes, often leaving you shocked one moment and in stitches the next. It doesn’t pull any punches, but that’s exactly what makes it so compelling.
The soundtrack is full of instant classics. From the hilariously chipper opener “Hello!” to the riotous “Hasa Diga Eebowai,” the hilariously self-important “You and Me (But Mostly Me),” and the side-splitting fever dream “Spooky Mormon Hell Dream,” each number is both musically brilliant and comedically sharp. You’ll leave the theatre humming—and laughing.

Adam Bailey and Sam Glen are a knockout comedic duo, perfectly embodying their characters’ quirks while maintaining great chemistry. Glen’s Elder Cunningham, in particular, is a comedic highlight. Nyah Nish as Nabulungi is another standout, delivering both vocal brilliance and emotional depth in a role that’s both sweet and slyly subversive.

The ensemble cast brings boundless energy and precision to every scene. Special mentions go to Tom Bales (Elder McKinley/Moroni), Kirk Patterson (Mafala Hatimbi), Will Barratt (Joseph Smith and more), and Rodney Earl Clarke (General/Satan), all of whom add layers of hilarity and charm. The rest of the large cast- Jay Anderson, Tolu Ayanbadejo, Dan Barstow, Hayden Cable, Benjamin Cameron, Will Carey, Olympia Curry, Kanoumah Diguet, Daniel George-Wright, Daniel David Griffith, Savannah Hall, Alex Hayden, Aaron Levi, Eden Lindsay, Zachary Loonie, Ross McKenna, Daniel N’Guessan-Lopez, Jessica Oppong, Bertram Okoro, Jake Reynolds, Kayode Salina, Rory Shafford, Harry Simpson, Elliot Swann, Harry Winchester – delivers with enthusiasm and cohesion, creating a lively, rich onstage world.

In short, The Book of Mormon is outrageously funny, smartly written, and packed with toe-tapping songs. It’s the ultimate tongue-in-cheek comedy musical—equal parts shocking, brilliant, and unmissable.
