At some point on this journey through life, many of us lose touch: with our bodies, our breath, our boundaries. Life gets busy. We give so much of ourselves to work, to family, to the weight of expectation…and in the process, we slowly drift from the version of ourselves that once felt strong, connected, and in tune. But here’s the real truth: it’s never too late to return to yourself.
Wellbeing and fitness aren’t about becoming someone new. They’re about remembering who you are. Every workout, every walk, every deep breath, every nourishing meal, and every moment of stillness, it’s a breadcrumb leading you back to you. Back to confidence, back to clarity, back to calm. Here are my top ten tips to find your way back to your wellbeing and fitness, and how to stay there:
Start small now
You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight. This can be so overwhelming. Begin with a ten minute walk or one nourishing, healthy meal. Momentum builds from small wins.
Reconnect with your why
Whether it’s energy, confidence, mental clarity, or longevity, knowing why you want to feel better can help you stay focused when motivation dips.
Schedule it like it matters
Put workouts, rest and meal planning in your calendar, and make them non-negotiable. You’re more likely to follow through when it’s a commitment in your diary, not an afterthought.
Create a ritual, not just a routine
Make your fitness and wellbeing moments feel special. Light a candle for meditation. Put on music you love to work out to. Wear workout clothes that make you look and feel confident. Ritual builds consistency.
Ditch perfectionism
Progress is never linear. Missed days, tired weeks, or the occasional wobble don’t mean failure; they mean you’re human. Imperfect action is better than no action. Keep going!
Choose enjoyment over obligation
Movement should feel good. If the gym bores you, dance. If running’s too much, walk with intention. There’s so much to choose from when it comes to moving your body. Wellbeing shouldn’t feel like punishment.
Nourish without deprivation
Nourish yourself in a way that supports both your body and your mind. Ditch diet culture and its rigid rules. Instead, choose to fuel your body with care, compassion, and balance.
Encouragement matters
Find a coach, a community, a tribe… or just one friend who lifts you up and holds you accountable. You don’t need to walk this path alone.
Celebrate every milestone
Don’t wait for the after photo. Celebrate each week you showed up, every moment you choose yourself. That is success!
Be patient, be proud, keep going
Real wellness lives in the showing up, not in the finish line. It’s in the small, steady steps you take towards your bigger goals. Those moments matter. Keep showing up. Keep moving forward. Even when it feels tough. Especially then. You are absolutely worth the effort.
And if you’re feeling lost, remember this: You haven’t failed. You’re simply being invited to reconnect with yourself. In my experience – and in the journeys of the thousands I’ve coached over the past decade – that’s exactly where the real transformation begins.
