With almost 20 years of experience in optometry, Jessica Borley is one of the familiar faces helping Cardiff residents look after their sight.
Jessica joined Specsavers as an optical assistant in 2007 and qualified as an optometrist the following year. She is now a director at Specsavers Albany Road, where she works alongside fellow directors James Deavall and Matthew Rose and a team of 17 collegues, including eight optometrists.
Together, the team draws on its extensive experience and knowledge to support customers throughout their eye care journey, offering a broad range of services in store.
Jessica says: “At Specsavers Albany Road, we support customers with everything from routine eye tests to urgent and emergency appointments. We also offer specialist services such as Independent Prescribing (IP) and medical retina care, which means we can help people with a range of eye health needs in their own community.
“It’s really rewarding to know that we can help people get the care they need quickly and make sure they have the right support throughout their eye care journey — all while easing pressure on NHS services.”
Now, almost two decades into her career, Jessica says it is the combination of caring for Cardiff customers and helping her colleagues develop that continues to make her role at Albany Road so rewarding.
She says: “Having started as an optical assistant, I know how important it is to give colleagues the support and opportunities they need to develop. Whether someone joins us for a Saturday job or is building a career in optometry, we want to help them gain skills, grow in confidence and progress.”
Specsavers Albany Road is one of several locally owned and run stores serving Cardiff, with eye and hearing care also available in Llanishen and St Mellons. To find out more, visit www.specsavers.co.uk/opticians-in-cardiff
