Penarth has welcomed a new legal name to the town following Harding Evans’ acquisition of long-established local firm Merrils Ede.

The move establishes Harding Evans’ first office in the Vale of Glamorgan and brings together two firms with deep roots in their communities. Merrils Ede, founded in 1965, is known for its long-standing private client practice, while Harding Evans can trace its own history back to the 1870s.

For clients, the change means familiar support close to home, backed by a much broader range of legal expertise. Alongside established services such a wills and probate matters and residential conveyancing, the firm has specialist teams who can help with family and children matters, personal injury and clinical negligence, right through to commercial matters including commercial property, corporate and commercial matters, disputes, debt recovery, employment and legal services for landlords.

Merrils Ede’s six-strong team will become part of Harding Evans, helping to ensure continuity for the firm’s loyal clients. The new office on Herbert Terrace joins Harding Evans’ headquarters in Newport and its Whitchurch office in Cardiff.

Ken Thomas, Chairman of Harding Evans, described the acquisition as “an exciting step forward”, adding that the two firm share the same values and commitment to high quality service.

“Merrils Ede is a firm we have admired for some time,” he said. “This acquisition brings together two very established firms, and we look forward to welcoming the team to Harding Evans.”

Janet Tillyard, Managing Partner at Merrils Ede, said the acquisition would enable the team to offer a wider range of services and continue supporting clients well into the future.

Although Harding Evans may be a new name in Penarth, its approach is reassuringly familiar: clear, honest advice delivered in a welcoming and approachable way. From its office on Herbert Terrace in the town centre, the firm will now offer its full range of services to people and businesses across Penarth and the wider Vale of Glamorgan.
